THE STORY BEHIND THE FINGERPRINT
A coffee shop discovery
In early 2011, God gave me the idea of creating a fingerprint with verses of Scripture instead of lines. As I pondered the idea — I felt the Spirit leading me to look deeper at the lines on my thumb. It got me thinking about how many lines were within each fingerprint.
As I started to count the lines on my thumb, I felt led to print off an image of a fingerprint. I went to a local coffee shop and started tracing each line in order to count them. As I neared the end.. 63.. 64.. my heart started to beat faster. My hands trembled as I traced the last line of the fingerprint. I couldn’t believe it. There were exactly 66 lines in a fingerprint. The EXACT number of books in the Bible!
One verse from every book of the Bible
At that point, everything started to click. It was clear that the fingerprint was to contain one verse from every book of the Bible. I started digging into my Bible and pondered how I would accomplish the task that lay before me.
The steps that followed were very slow and meticulous. It took several days to find verses and inscribe them with pencil. I had to find powerful verses that were the exact length of each line it was assigned to. It was a challenging experience — but deeply fulfilling. It was the first time I was able to fuse my passion for God’s Word with art and design.
Once the fingerprint had been completed in pencil – it was time to make it final. The process of going over every line with an archival ink pen was a bit daunting. One mistake and the entire piece would be ruined! My prayer through the entire process was “Lord, please guide my hands to create an accurate reflection of your perfect Word.” As expected, God answered that prayer.
A vision to spread God’s Word
I would love to see as many people as possible connect with God’s Word through this artwork. If you feel God leading you to use this artwork in some way, please please get in touch.
My hope is that this artwork would edify the body of Christ and compel non-believers to look deeper into the perfect word of God.
